How To Find Someones Ip Address

How To Find Someones Ip Address - Do you want to track someone's IP address? Or your own IP address? Do you want to find out which country an email is coming from? You can do this by tracing an IP address. This is not hard to do, and we'll show you how.

Method 1: Site IP Address

  1. Open the command console. On a Mac, the console is called Terminal and is contained in the Utilities folder. On PC, click Start, then Accessories, then Command Prompt. You will be able to ping on any site to find out the IP address of the site.

      2. Ping the IP address. This will send a signal to a URL-like sonar, because it's so-that then bounces back with the requested site information, and how long it takes.
  • Type "ping [URL]" - example: ping www.facebook.com
     3. Press again. The IP address should appear next to the site name, followed by the number of seconds or milliseconds the ping is taken.
  • The format of an IP address is numeric, written as four dot-separated series of numbers. For Facebook, its IP address is 69.171.237.16.

Method 2: IP Address Email

  1. Open your email client. To find the IP address of an email sent to you, you can investigate the message head-which looks like a keyboard spill in the message.
     2. Show header. From the View menu, take a selection that lets you see all extended headers or headers, and your To / From section will grow with new information. From all of that information, you only need two details to look for.
  • Next to the Received section, you will see a line that reads "from ..." and the IP address as illustrated above. Select one, and copy it to the clipboard. In this case, we will choose 66.220.144.152, and copy it. We can see that the result reads Received from mx-out.facebook.com, so we will do a test to see if this is accurate.
    3. Open the command console. This is as described above. Only this time, you do not ping at the address you already know, but do the whois checking.
  • In your terminal window, next to the flashing cursor, type whois 66.220.144.152, and press Enter. This information will be sent to a database, requested, and then returned with registration information for that IP address.
  • In this case, we can confirm that the message was sent via Facebook. Note that we also have full domain registrar addresses.
    4. Use alternative checkers. You may not want to use a terminal, or it may not appear on your computer. If so, you can try using internet lookup, such as ip-lookup, which can give you more or less the same information as whois checking, and in many cases, can even give you more information.
